Personal Support
We actively strive to support Grandcarers in different ways.
We encourage Grandcarers to attend our village peer support meetings, build social networks, and take an opportunity to share your challenges and seek solutions. See below for further details.
Individual support for our Grandcarers (grandparents and kinship carers) covers the list as follows:
- Confidential support and information to Grandcarers through our telephone helpline and face-to-face meetings.
- Personalised and practical advice tailored for each family, with the child’s best interest at its core.
- Personal referrals to other agencies that support grandparents and kinship carers in navigating financial issues, child protection, and legal systems.
The Grandcarers SA village program was developed to enable our team to provide grandparents and kinship carers of children with a safe space to meet and share challenges, explore solutions, develop connections and identify accessible services for them.
Our Outreach Program provides more occasional visits to locations without a village, to engage with grandparent and kinship carers seeking Grandcarers SA support.
View our Village and Events Calendar for future events.
It takes a village to raise a child
As a result of our ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity, registered clients of Grandcarers SA can apply for home maintenance support. As an example, one of our carer clients had their kitchen drawers replaced. There was also a new kitchen tap fitted.
If you are a Grandcarers SA registered client, are unable to receive home maintenance help elsewhere and would like to get some help, download/print the Request For Assistance Application Form for completion and submission to Grandcarers SA by emailing it to contactus@grandcarers.au.
We understand that the support needed by alienated grandparents is individual and personal, requiring the care and professional input of qualified personnel beyond the resources of Grandcarers SA.
Grandcarers SA encourages alienated grandparents to seek out support professionals such as Counsellors and legal specialists.
To assist Alienated Grandparents, Grandcarers SA has provided a Guide which includes details of other agencies who may be able to help those who are alienated from their grandchildren.
See our Alienated Grandparents Guide.
